  • Meeting monthly with MPS Superintendent to address issues such as:
    • Improving diversity of MPS faculty and staff
    • Proficiency gaps and district-wide strategies to address them
    • Professional development of teaching and counseling staff
    • Parent engagement strategies
  • Co-sponsor semi-annual Districtwide Meetings of Diversity Committees on topics such as:
    • The impact on young students of implicit bias in teachers
    • Academic performance and student engagement in extracurricular activities
    • White Privilege: Unpacking the Invisible Knapsack
    • Recognizing and Respecting Students’ Gender Identities
    • Local diversity committees’ successes, challenges and upcoming plans
  • Directly impact MPS hiring processes
    • Maintain a specific focus on increasing District’s hiring of teachers and administrators of color
    • Participate in hiring processes for principals, assistant principals and top administrators
    • Advocate for exit interviews for teachers of color
  • Engage School Committee about issues affecting equitable academic achievement by all students
    • Helped write and pass MPS Diversity Policy, one of the first in the state
    • Monitor MPS Diversity Policy implementation including analysis of the annual MPS Diversity Report
    • Meet individually with School Committee members and dialogue with full School Committee
    • Monitor and advise the School Committee’s Cultural Competency Committee
    • Supported MPS school budget in Prop. 2 1/2 override letter to the editor
  •  Support MPS programs that support high achievement for all students
    • Awarded $13,208 in diversity grants to teachers, librarians and other MPS staff to engage and benefit students in projects that help put CDM’s vision into practice
    • Funded “Welcoming New Families Program” for new parents with limited English proficiency
    • Pushed for Tucker School Pilot Music Program with MPS Music Department and Tucker staff
    • Worked with Tucker staff, parents, MPS to increase Tucker students’ involvement in sports
    • Encourage MPS to achieve diversity in school sports, music, drama and all activities
  • Assist in the development of school-based diversity committees in all 6 Milton public schools
    • Developed and disseminated guidelines for school-based diversity committees
    • Secured MPS agreement for school-based diversity committees’ role in hiring teachers & staff
    • Support and participate in school-based diversity committees
  • Participate in civic activities that promote diversity, interracial understanding and equity
    • Promoted Milton’s diversity during Milton’s 350th Anniversary Celebrations
    • Supported “My Neighborhood: 350 Years Later” photo project celebrating diverse families
    • Spearheaded local hub of “Milton Reflecting,” multi-cultural project among five Milton towns
    • Promoted student-organized “50 Years Later: Why the Struggle for Civil Rights is Still Relevant”
  • Obtained MPS data on suspensions and expulsions by race and gender
